Blog Day 22: Meet Carter!

Last but not least, let me introduce Mr. Carter. Carter is our only boy, and let me tell you, he is ALL BOY. He is the baby of the family but the biggest. Check him out at 3 months:

And now…

Carter is also about 3 1/2 years old, just slightly younger than Lyla (approximation of course). We adopted him in Wilmington shortly after adopting Lyla. This one was my doing. I felt like Lyla needed a companion and playmate. We took Lyla to the shelter to meet any prospects we might find. I instantly fell in love with Carter’s color and asked to see him and one of his brothers. His brother was much bigger and hyper. Carter was the runt and hid under the chair when Lyla tried to play with him. I thought this would be perfect, a nice shy pup to round out the family. Instead, I got this…

Carter is a wild child, a free spirit. He might be the smartest dog we have. He knows a few tricks and will do any of them on command to get what he wants, but he conveniently has a case of selective hearing. He is a ball of uncontrollable energy one second, and unconscious the next. Gabby finds his incessant licking quite annoying, and Sheba doesn’t hesitate to snag his lip if he looks at her wrong. Carter loves his poppa and as you can see, he also LOVES his duck…

and digging holes…

A bit of a downer is the fact that Carter has started a handful of fights with Lyla, most of which I have had to break up. Carter is supposedly Doberman mixed with Rottweiler, a bit of a scary combination. He is pretty territorial and dominate with her, something that I hate. If anyone has any advice on this, please throw it our way. These episodes don’t happen often. More times than not, this is what you can expect…

Playing…

And then crashing…
