I knew he had something planned because I had made it perfectly clear that he better. So after our wedding in Temecula was done and we headed down to San Diego, it wasn’t long before I was off on one of his infamous “surprises.” We ended up in downtown SD at the Westgate Hotel (iphone images because I decided to take a break from the camera and just enjoy the moments). The historic charm was beautiful. He knows just my style.
We spent the day walking around downtown, just enjoying the beautiful day that it was and thinking that we could get used to visiting here more often. Don’t we say this about every place we go?
We came back to the hotel to get ready for dinner. We decided to get all dolled up because, let’s face it, we work most days in sweats, t-shirts, or athletic gear. I wore a new dress that I had just bought from J.Crew (love J.Crew!). He wore his equally J.Crew inspired trying-without-trying get-up, and he looked as handsome as ever. On our way out of the hotel, I immediately spotted the sun beaming through these very dark clouds. In between…a gorgeous rainbow grew straight out of the city buildings.
I wish this photo did it better justice, but little did I know that there would be more. The next day:
We had an amazing dinner at the Melting Pot, another favorite of mine, and relished in our 1 year of wearing rings. It seemed a little arbitrary to be celebrating 1 year of anything when this December will actually make the moment that our paths first crossed a decade old. 10 years ago, I met this kind of loud, pretty funny but also pretty arrogant, VERY charming boy. I had no idea that he would become the man that I call my best friend, my lover, and the person that I trust the most in the entire world. For the record, he’s still a little loud, funny, arrogant, and charming. His love for me has never failed, possibly making him the most determined, patient, and understanding person in the world. My love for him grows daily.
Our actual anniversary was on the last day of our trip, and we were to fly out that evening on a red-eye. With no plans left, except to spend time with Chad’s mom, we decided to hit up the San Diego Zoo. The day again was beautiful. Our slice of life is beautiful.
